Why Knitting and Nature? My Knitting Story

Knitting and nature have always been part of my life.  My mother is an avid knitter.  She has made countless garments and household items for my family and me. When I was very young, she even taught me to knit.  However, I preferred to crochet until I was an adult.  Working with yarn brings me joy.  I love the colors and feel of yarn in my hands and enjoy creating beautiful and useful items.

I am knitting in a garden among the flowers.

My parents also instilled an early love for the outdoors and an appreciation for nature.  As children, my brother and I spent many hours outside.  We explored, hiked, camped, watched birds, and looked for animal tracks.  I still love all these things and share them with my child.

My family and I enjoyed a hike in the woods.

It wasn’t until my son was born that I learned to design my knitting patterns.  I met a woman, at a mom and baby yoga class, who designed crochet patterns.  It was an eye-opening idea!  Of course, intellectually I knew someone had to design knitting, but I never thought it could be me.  She told me about an online, self-paced design class that she took and encouraged me to try it.

Combining two things I love, knitting and nature, seemed like a natural choice.  When my son was little and napping, I would take that time to design new knitting projects and learn techniques.  Now that he’s in school, I’m working to expand my business.  It provides me with the flexibility to be the parent that I want to be and the joy of creating knitting patterns and items to share with others.
